• Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease that attacks the central nervous system.
  
• about 18,000 Australians have the disease.
• the cause of MS remains unknown and there is no cure but treatments can ease symptoms and slow down the progress of the disease.

key symptoms of MS:

• blurred vision of painful eyes
• feeling tired
• muscle weakness
• tingling or numbness
• loss of balance or mobility
• continence problems
• speech difficulties
• difficulty concentrating
• mood swings or depression

There are four different types of MS:

• Relapsing-remitting MS – most people with MS begin with this type of the disease course. People show symptoms of MS (relapse) but then seem to get better (remission).
• Primary progressive  MS – Affects about one in 10 people with MS. No relapses but disabilities gradually get worse.
• Secondary progressive MS – A person starts with relapsing-remitting MS but relapses are less frequent or cease but disability gets worse.
• Relapsing progressive MS – a rare form of MS. It's progressive from onset with relapses of worsening symptoms along the way.
